Overall I feel that this shoot went very well. This shoot was in the studio and was an extended shoot for Robert Mayplethorpe to get some more photographs. I found that the first studio shoot I did that was inspired by Robert Mayplethorpe didnt go as well as I thought it would. Therefore the second time I did it I felt that it was a better improvement and contained better ideas to experiment and edit with.

Robert Mayplethorpe studio
Overall I feel that this shoot went very well. This shoot was in the studio and was an extended shoot for Robert Mayplethorpe to get some more photographs. I found that the first studio shoot I did that was inspired by Robert Mayplethorpe didnt go as well as I thought it would. Therefore the second time I did it I felt that it was a better improvement and contained better ideas to experiment and edit with.
Robert Mapple thorpe location
This photograph was one of my 4 straight prints from the Robert mayplethorpe location inspired work. This photograph is of Beth holding a camera. When I first took this I had a basic idea but didn't know why it would link to Robert Mayplethorpe's work. However the more I look at it the editing with the black and white background makes it inspired as well as the meaning of Robert capturing a moment of life and how it will never be captured again only remembered as a memory. I like how this photograph as a rock edge to it and that it doesn't look simple. However to improve this photograph I could of captured her face to show seriousness.
This shoot was successful in my eyes however I feel that this was not one of my strongest shoots out of all the shoots I have done. I feel that taking photographs that were inspired by Robert Mayplethorpe was difficult as we was taking them outside and his work is based in a studio. However I feel that I took some decent photographs and the outcome was really good. If I would go back and add to this shoot I would defiantly take more photograph to experiment with.

Work Diary Studio Free
In this studio shoot the theme was free this meant that we could experiement with different ideas. I was in the group with Demi and Beth. As a group we decided we wanted the black back drop as our first set of photographs. This meant that we had to put the white rectangle blocks and place them infront of the lights. This allowed the background to be completely black and not a dark grey shade. From this set up I had learnt how to set up for a black background and do the flash readings for the camera.
The first photograph Im going to evaluate is the photograph of demi. This photograph looks like Demi's head is floating this is because she is wearing a dark jumper which camoflaged with the background and her hair and face is light which was seen as it is contrast with the black background. This photograph was taken very seriouse and I have experimented in the editing process to see what the photograph would look like in a darker hue and saturation where the colours is very vague. This photograph is very similar to the photograph Robert Maypole Thorpe. I had taken this without realising however when I look back at it and can see a meaning behind it that society is so big that sometimes you can lose yourself.

The second photograph I took in this free studio shoot was on a white background. This photograph was a photograph of half of Demi's face. The aim of uisng a white background was to show the virsutility of my photographers of using a black and white background. This photograph shows the contrast of demis face and the white background. I feel that this photograph is simple but different. To improve this photograph I could of taken the photograph which captured her eye more and made it stand out.
If I would go back and add to this shoot I would of taken more photographs on the white background.

Studio Work diary, Form
This shoot was taken in the studio. The theme of the shoot was to take photographs of form using people. This was to be presented showing the shadows of lightness and darkness in the body. This was to show that human bodys are 3D and have shape to them which will be hilighted in the photographs. This was the 2nd time I was in the studio so from the mistakes I made in the first studio shoot I was then learning from them and aiming to improver my photographs. The lighting was set up so that one was dimmer then the other to show shadow and create silhouettes from the body.
The first photograph I am going to evaluate is the side view of Addy. This photograph used the prop of a flower which I placed in her fringe this was to symbolise how nature is beautiful and so are females. The photograph showed form through the silhouette of her face which identified the shape of her nose and mouth and how they are three diemensonal not flat. Form also was shown in her shoulder and top of her arm. This was shown through the shadow of the lightness and darkness which also showed that her arm wasnt flat but 3D. This photograph is one of my favorites and I feel is presented well. To improve this photograph I could of got less shadow in the background to show the white background
d more and edited the flower to make it brighter to stand out more.
The second photograph Im going to evaluate is the photograph of both Addy and Demi. This photograph showed form in there arms, faces, hair and clothes. The lightness and shadows in these areas establish that they have shape to there body and are three dimensioal. This photograph also I feel expresses happiness and friendship through there cheerful smiles and the way they are standing close to hilight closeness. To improve this photograph I could of used my time better to experiment with different levels.
If I would go back and add more to this shoot I would defiently experiement more with both Addy and Demi in the photograph and postioned them in different place, levels and angles.

Contrast 2 work diary
The second time I went out to shoot contrast. I found it much easier because we had a discussion with Paul before we went out to take photographs. This allowed me to gather my ideas before I went out to take photographs. The difference between the two contrast shoots was that this one involved contrast in emotion and personality and appearence. Where as my first contrast shoot was on nature and man made materials.
The first photograph im going to evaluate is the photograph where I used the contrast of Beth expressing a happy and angry emotion. I did this by putting the red back ground with her angry expression. And the happy expression with a white background these reflected the emotions very well. To improve this photograph I could of taken the photographs closer and been more creative in the editing process.
The second photograph im going to evaluate is the photograph of the hair. I used Sophie and Taylors hair in contrast with eachother as one was curly and one was straight. Then i changed the opacity to put Demi and Beth's hair ontop but ghostly to show Blonde and Black hair. This photograph was creative and fit the theme of contrast very well. To improve this photograph I could of cropped there bodies and just had there heads and hair.
If I would go back and add to this shoot I would of taken more photographs as I only filled one and bit contact sheets. However by not taking as much photographs showed that I concentrated more on what I was taking and how they would turn out instead of making sure that I have taken plenty of photographs.

Contrast 1 work diary
In my first contrast shoot we established in the lesson that contrast was opposites of eachother. For example light and dark or rough and smooth. This gave me a bit of an idea of what to capture but didnt create a huge understanding. When I went out to take my photographs the weather was dry and the sun was shining which was great because then my photographs would bring out the detail more of the established contrast as the sun would be shining on them. This allowed me to take some decent photographs which was good.
The first photograph Im going to evaluate is my photograph showing half brick and half wood. This photograph is taken vertically where the two man made materials meet. This photograph shows the contrast of two differnt building materials. The brick being very light and rough and the wood being very dark and smooth. The sun was directly shining on this photograph which bought out both the textures and hilighted the detail more to show the contrast of them. This photograph to me is very simple but the brightness of it and the layout makes it appealing to look at. Before I started photography at a level I didnt think that you could take a photograph of man made materials and make it look engaging. This is something I have learnt from all my shoots in formal elements. To improve this photographs both sides could of been even to make the photograph more presentable.
The second photograph Im going to evaluate is the photograph I took of the pavement where the shadow was covering half of the photograph diagonlly and the other half was very bright. This photograph shows the contrast of lightness and darkness. When I was taking this photograph I imagined the meaning behind it. This is that in life there is always going to be dark and lonly times but if you keep smiling your life will soon brighten up and become postive. This photograph is presented well. However to improve this photograph I could of taken it closer to achieve more detail in the photograph.
If I would go back and add more to this contrast shoot I would take more photographs of colour and the emotions that colour expresses.

Studio work diary leaves
When I went into the studio for my 4th time to take photographs. The theme was to take photographs that fit the theme of quite reflection as well as leave photographs. Because it was my 4th time in the studio I found it much easier to use the lighting and work with the shadows. There was lots of props to use which brang out everyones creative sides.I also found it easier to work the camera because I had used it in the past times I have been in the studio.
My first photograph im going to evaluate is the photograph of Demi with the leave against her face. This photograph involves a leaf which fits the theme of nature. Aswell as quite reflection as its been taken because of the life cycle of a leaf. As well as the beauty of both nature and Demi. This photograph used the dark red back drop which created the photographs to have autmn colours in them. This back drop was very different to plain white and gave it different style to it. To improve this photograph the leaf could of been more attached to Demi and the photograph could of used shadows.
The second photograph is of the mixture of leaves. This photograph was close up so brang out the details in all the leaves. As well as the colours and the fresh water was hilighted. The photograph again was inspired by the cycle of a leaf which fit the theme of quite reflection. To improve this photograph the organisation of the leaves could of been better and the foucus and quality better.
If I would go back and add to the studio shoot. I would of taken more photographs and more photographs of leaves which were better and higher quality.

Nature walk 2 work diary
When I went out on my second nature walk with my photography class. We decided to go a different route and this was so that we get totally different photographs from our last walk. Because I had been out and taken photographs from my my last walk this time I had more of an idea what to take and how to take them. The weather on this walk was much colder and it had rained the night before thereofore there was alot of puddles. Even though the weather wasnt very nice this allowed me to take reflection photographs in the puddles and show how autumn was fading out and how winter was coming and how it affects nature. I took a lot of photographs again on this walk. My two faveroite photographs were:

The first photograph was my bird photograph which appears in my top twenty and portfolio. This photograph was of the birds flying in motion. This was very affective because it looked as if the birds were flying towards the reciever. This photograph involved the sky and the clouds which created the photograph to look very beautiful. The birds were silouhetts and so was the top of the house and tree's. This made them stand out as well as using the formal element of shape. This is one of my favrouite photographs I have taken. How ever if I could improve this photograph I could of made the photograph brighter and cropped the photograph to show less birds.
The second photograph im going to evaluate is my tree photographer. This has been captured when the sun was shining right on it. This makes the tree and its remaining leaves glow. This photograph shows the life cycle of a tree through how the leaves are all almost fallen off the tree. This hilights that this photograph was taken in the autumn season. I expecially like the colours in this photograph and how the deep blue sky is in the background. The layout of how the tree covers the whole photograph and the branches spiral out are very capitivating. How ever to improve this photograph I could of made the two sides even and taken more of the tree therefore not having it as close up as it is.
If I would go back and add to this shoot I would take more photographs using the formal element of reflection. Also I would take more photograph reflecting the cold weather.

Nature walk 1 work diary
Work Diary
When I went on the nature walk with my photography class the walk was for atleast 30 minutes. This allowed us to take loads of photographs so that we had a nice amount of photographs to select and edit to fit in to our portfolio and the compettion. The weather was dry and perfect to get some lovely photographs. This shoot we explored other surroundings instead of just the college. We went out to woods and mainly places where nature was. I managed to take a lot of photographs and learnt new techniques while on the walk. I also learnt how to make a simple thing like the sky look stunning
g with the angle I take the photograph. My two faveriote photographs were:
My leaves photograph that is in my portfolio and my top twenty. This photograph I expecially like because of the bright colours and the layout of the photographs. As well as the photograph being close up which makes detailes of the leaves stand out. Even though this photograph is under the nature walk. This photograph shows extremly well the formal element of lines. This is shown in the leaves. Overall I think that these colours create nature to be beautiful. To improve this photograph I could of blurred the background out more to just have the attention on the big leaves.
My second photograph is the photograph I took of the huge bushes that uses a variety of colours. These colours represent autumn very well as they are green, yellow and red's. This creates the photograph to look very unique and stand out from just plain green nature. The colours are all seperate from eachother and the gaps in the bushes which are dark create the formal element of depth. The layout of ths photograph is that the bushes cover the whole page. This photograph is very busy and shows natures beauty. To improve this photograph I could of enhanced the brightness and focused on a closer version of this photograph.
If I would go back and add to my nature walk I would take more photographs of flowers as my work mainly consisted of tree's and leaves.

Form Work Diary
When I went out shooting the weather was lovely and bright and made it easier for me to take photographs of form. To improve and add to the shoot I would take more photographs on nature and plants.
Texture Work Diary
The second photograph I'm going to evaluate is
When I went out shooting texture the first attempt there wasn't much light out therefore texture in my photographs wasn't seen very well. How ever then I went out the second time and there was a lot of light and all my photographs came out showing texture very well. To improve my shoot I could of taken more shots that weren't hugely close up to give a range of angles in my contact sheet.

Definition- Reflection
Dictionary Definition of Reflections
The throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat or sound without absorbing it: the reflection of light.
Describing word for Reflection
This photograph uses the the formal element reflection. The reflection has been shown from the reflection of the two swans in the water. Reflections is shown very well through water mainly. This is very affective as it develops the photograph of just two swans to a repeated reflection which creates the photograph to look more interesting and more detailed. The photograph is centred in the middle and is shows the background in the distance to make sure that the reflection stands out and is the main focus of the photograph.
This photograph uses the formal element of reflection. The reflection has been produced by the bright sun reflecting the three people. This is very affective as it shows a repeated amount of reflections instead of one and adds more shape and the atmosphere of fun to the photograph. The colours are very bright and warming to create the three people and the reflection to stand out. The photograph is very wide to make sure it fits all three people in and there reflections.
In this photograph uses the formal element reflection. The reflection has been produced in the water. The reflection is of bright pink pretty flowers. This photograph is a natural photograph with very bright colours. The reflection is very clear and the colours are still very bright this draws the viewer to the reflections as its very clear and obvious to look at. The flowers have been taken to the right hand side with a space to there left this is to make the photograph different instead of taking them in the centre.
My first photograph that I'm going to evaluate is my reflection photograph that is of a reflection of a building through a window. This photograph is very well laid out as the reflection is very clear to see. The camera angle is very different as its showing half the window and then half the reflected building. This photograph shows reflection through a window and has a dark lighting to show the viewer the main formal element of this photograph is reflection as this is what's shown brighter. To improve this photograph I would of kept my camera steadier so there is no blurring in the photograph.
The second photograph I'm going to evaluate is the photograph of a girl taking a photograph and the reflection of her fall body is in a glass building. This photograph has even sides to it and shows reflection very well. The photograph has been taken from behind to show an interesting angle of reflection. To improve this photograph I would make the photograph much lighter and not use as much excess space above the girls head to keep the focus on reflection.
When I was taking these reflection photographs the weather was very damp and it had rained earlier I found this easier to get reflection through puddles as there was lots. However because the weather was very duel my photographs weren't coming out light therefore I was having to lighten my photographs which decreased the sharpness of them. To improve onto this shoot I would take more photographs in puddles and at different angles and would take more photographs.

This photograph uses the formal element reflection. The reflection is shown through the horses eye. The light is shining through the horses eye to produce the reflection to be shown in the eye. This is very unique and interesting to look at. The photograph has been taken extremely close up this is to make sure the viewer sees the reflection clearly as the reflection is very small and faint. My own definition of reflection is that it is a faint repeat of something that has been reflected by light or the sun. The best things it is shown through is a mirror, windows or buildings.

Definiton- Tone
Dictonary Definiton of Tone
General effect of colour or of light and shade in a picture which has a slight degree of differnece in instensity of colour.
Describing words for Tone
This Photograph is of the country side. The tress and grass are all in still movement as the wind is blowing them in one directon. The sky is full of grey clouds but has the bright sun creeping through. This photograph shows tone through the grass, tress and sky. This is because they all contain two differnent intense shades of black and white which gives them a three dimensional look to them. They also contain a tone through the light of the sun and darkness of the clouds. The atmosphere this photograph brings is a calming but typical countryside english weather.
This photograph is of a group of plants in still movement as the wind is blowing them in one direction. This photograph contains the use of tone. This is shown in the grass and plants this is becuase in the plants they have a white tone to them that has a hint of darkness in them where the dark sky is enhancing there darkness. Also the grass blur in the background contains a mixture of lightness and darkness this is tone as there is to shades used. This photograph is very clear to see the tone as the photograph is very close up.

This photograph is of a lake with stones and wilted plants at the side of the lake. This photograph contains the use of tone through the lake's water, the stones and the sky. This is because in the lakes's water there is two tones one being light and the other being dark this has occured through the refelction of the sun. The sky is toned aswell as it contains two shades one being a light and the other being a dark grey. This sets a scarey mood to the calming plants and lake. The stones also contain tone as they have dark and light hints in them aswell this makes them look three dimensional and stand out.
This photograph is of thin plants and the background of a huge field. Tone is used in this photograph as the sky has two shades of lightness and darkness. This creates the photograph to look very affective as the sky sets the atmosphere and creates the plants to look more interesting then what they are. This photograph is very basic but my using tone gives the photograph a three dimensional feel to it.
My own Definition
A shade of a colour whether it will be light or dark.
Work Diary
The first photograph im going to evaluate is the wall photograph. This photograph shows very clearly what tone is by using the two light and dark colours next to it to show the contrast. The way that darker side has less thickness then the lighter side makes the photograph different however to improve this photograph the sides could be both even to see if the photograph creates tone to give a different affect.
The second photograph im going to evaluate is the fence photograph. This photograph has been taken from a high angle then the mini fences this is very different and creates tone to be shown more clear as you can see the difference between the lightness of the fence and the darkness of the ground behind it. To improve this photograph i could of cut the left of the photograph to makes the fence even so there is four columns instead of four and a bit.
The day i went out to photograph this formale element the weather was very bright and dry this made it easier for myslef to see where tone is being used. To develop my photographs i woud take more man made photographs as most of my photographs i took were of nature.

In this photograph it shows depth. This photograph is of a white fence with small pebbles balancing on the tops with grass plants in the background. The use of depth is where the fence starts of very close up and then gets further away to show the length of it. The closer pebbles are much more sharp and focused but as the fence gets more depth the pebbles turn unfocused and blurred. The plants in the background at colour to the photograph and is there to fill a space because if the plants weren't there the use of depth wouldn't be as compact and narrow therefore not being as affective.
-
In this photograph there is also use of depth. The glass cups filled with sweets are lined up and the camera has taken them from the side angle to show the depth of them. This is very affective as its creatively done and shows the glasses from an interesting angle instead of face on which wouldn't be as complex and appealing to look at. The bright colours also create the photograph to have more depth as the colours turn unfocused when the get further away from the camera. I think this photograph is very good as they have managed to blur all the glasses other then the second one in this makes this photograph different and shows depth in a different way.
This photograph shows depth as the photograph is of the side of a house and scraps of wood and metal outside it. The use of depth has been taken from the side but diagonally angled to a high angle to show more depth and create the photograph to look like some sort of illusion. The black and white colours create this photograph to look very vintage and brings out the depth more. I think this photograh is very high quality and is something that would inspire me with my work.
-
In this photograph it shows depth this is becuase the long bridge has been taken at the start of the bridge to show the long lentgh. This is very affective as the further the bridge gets the smaller it is and narrower it goes. The differnce with this photograph is that the further it gets it still stays in focus but only slightly blurs but the others become unofocused and extremely blurred. This photogrpahy also contains form as the shadow on the bridge is showing this. The bright colours are very engaging and the long bridge leads the viwers eyes through a journey to the relaxing and sensational sea and villas on the other side. This photograph reminds me of a chilled holiday which puts me in a postive mood
My own Definiton of Depth
Depth is when something is taken from a certain angle to produce length or width that has a close up object and then unfocused objects. The use of depth is to show a journey and make a photograph more intersting to look at.
- Work Diary
The first photograph i am going to evaluate is the long drain
edit. This photograph shows depth extremly well as it shows the lentgh of the drain starting from a closeup and leading the viewers eyes through to the end. This photograph is very clear and the colours are very sharp. To improve this photograph i would of takne out the red tiles at the side to put more focus on the drain to create the depth to be more narrow.
The second photograph im going to evaluate is the head light photograph. This has been taken from a low angle to show the full lengthg of the head light starting from the bottom. This photograph isnt one of my best as the colours are very dark and there is a faint pink line in the sky which i couldnt make disappear. however the dark colour of the head light creates depth to be seen very clear.
The day i went out to take photographs for this formal element the weather was vey bright and dry therefore i took alot of photographs outside. To develop my shoot i would of taken more photos to get a better understanding of depth.

Four annoations of shapes in photography
In this photograph it has a range of shapes to form the appearence of this photograph. The shapes are curved lines that form irregular circles. These shapes all spiral round to make individual huge cirlces that range from small to medium to big sizes. This photograph covers the whole of the photograph there is no background to contrast the shapes with. This allows the shapes to be the definite main focus and as the shapes spiral in it creates an illusion and draws the viewer into the centre of the photograph. The red in the shapes creates a warmth and makes the shapes look 3 dimensional as they contain a depth. This photograph all together is very captivating and the appearence is very interesting to look at.
In this photograph it contains shapes to form the appearence of this photgraph. The main shape that this photograph contains is cirlces. There are 3 cirlces in this photograph the first one being the biggest which is the outline of the CD. The second is the faint line in the middle of the CD and the last one is in the centre which is the smallest sized cirlce. These circles form the CD and give the CD a complex struture to it even though its only formed by circles. This photograph contains a flat object but the shiny mix of colours and the reflection from the CD create this photograph to look 3 dimensional. The cricles are the main focus of the photograph and by having a white background draws all the attention on the CD.
In this photograph it uses shape to create the photograph to have a mysteriouse affect. The shapes used are a repatative amount of cirlces on the both the table and the salt and pepper. The circles are all monocrome and create a dark and edgy look to the photograph. The use of just one shape creates a pattern and makes the photograph look very fascinating to look at. The circles on the table are produced by a light this creates the photograph to look very 3 dimensional. By having cirles all over the table and just two object creates this photograph to not look overly clutterd just well presented and interesting to look at.
In this photograph it uses the theme of shapes. The shapes used in this photograph are mainly squares this is repeated as the photograph is of a block of apartments. The squares create this photograph to look very stables and structured. This photograph is very interesting as the initial look of this photograph just looking like a pattern of shapes but when you look closely and deeper into the photograph you realise its a block of apartments this is very affective as it engages the viewer hugely. This photograph is 3 dimensional and this is what highlights the squares and creates them to be the main focus of this photograph. The squares are the colour white and this is to border the dark colours that are inside the square. This photograph shows that shapes appear in everyday life man made and natural.
Own definition of shapes

Work Diary
The day i went out to take the photographs for this formal element the weather was very bright and dry this was very good as it made shapes very easy to find and therefore i took a range of photographs inside and out. If i would develop my photographs i would of large areas of shapes instead of lots of close up photographs.
